Has anyone been up Charleston lately? Going to be in Vegas this week and was thinking about Charleston either next Wednesday or Thursday.

Friends were. Lots of soft unbroken snow on the Big Falls route. Warm this week, but don't expect a walk in the park.

Looking snowy this weekend. If the mountain gets as much as the forecast is indicating, there could still be a fair amount the weekend after. If I get up there, I'll post an on-the-ground update. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... tType=text

Any one have some more recent info on Charleston conditions? I'll be in Vegas either next weekend or the weekend after that, and any info on what I'll need for a hike up Charleston would be much appreciated.

Looks like you could get to the top almost snow-free by starting from Harris Springs. Still there are big patches of snow, but they are avoidable on S-facing slopes. Trail Canyon and NLT are almost-snow-free until the ridge to Devil's Thumb; as always, that area S of DT is dangerous when snowy, unless there is a good boot track in the snow.

Be aware that the official SLT is closed near the Cathedral Rock Parking. Drive a bit up the road for Mary Jane Falls and Trail Canyon, and take the first road on the left (before Mary Jane turn-off). Park there and head SE to the SLT trail It's a pain, but avoids a $275 ticket). Or just go up the NLT from Trail Canyon.

update: Seems now it is open by Cathedral Rock, but not at the regular trailhead. Ascend the steps and cut left on a connecting trail.
