Yeah anyone been up there lately? I am thinking about doing a Sunday day trip. Seems that the weather will be ok. Any knowledge or speculation on conditions? I haven't called Timberline yet, might try tomorrow.

It's going to be warm enough that I will not climb this weekend, and I'll generally climb in conditions most would call "questionable." The freezing level will rise above the summit tomorrow night, which means the crater will be a rain of ice and probably some rock all morning long on Sunday.

Proceed with caution, if you decide to go up! What route you thinking?

Yeah the advisories didn't look favorable. Thanks for the follow-up. It would have been non-technical, probably pearly gates. Although this Sunday is looking gorgeous on Theilsen. A buddy of mine and I are going to see how far up we can get. Probably at least to the pinnacle. Maybe stop there though, depends how much sno-over is on the top.

I've been itchin' to get out in the Cascades since last years learning experiences. I talked to the K-Falls RD yesterday about FS3661 to McLoughlin, still buried. Sounds like ODOT is shooting for Memorial day on Cascade Lakes and McKenzie. Since I'm not set up for backcountry skiing, I have to wait for roads to clear to avoid any extended approaches. What are the roads like around Thielsen? Small car doable when the snow is gone?

ETA: Scratch that about the roads, just read up on it and sounds like they keep them plowed. Hmm..... I might have to go check Thielsen out sometime soon schedule permitting.

Bascally a re-tweet: Was anyone on Hood this weekend above the Palmer Chairlift? Is the snow going to be consolodated enough to climb this weekend?

summited onthe night of 4/28-4/29 and had great snow. styrofoam conditions till decent then slush around 9:00am all the way back to the car. standard route with people stilll going up around 10:00am reallly dumb just mythoughts

Thanks for the updates. We're planning on camping at Illumination Saddle Saturday night and making a real-time decision after digging our own pit and checking out the snow for a Sunday summit. I'll post an update here on Monday.

From what i saw there where quite a few pits already dug out you might be able to luck out and just pitch your tent. have fun. thats a fun mountain!

I don't know where you are planning to dig your pit, but a pit around I-Saddle will tell you little to nothing about conditions within and above the crater.

I don't mean to be a critic or smart ass, I'm just say'n>>>> Be careful. Not a good weekend with the current snow conditions and weather pattern which will exascerbate those hazards.

Yeah right... have a SAFE weekend. I did a kiddie hike with my gf in the gorge. "Only" to Wachcella Falls. Some guy slipped on rocks near rock pool, went down on his butt, and his foot wedged between two rocks and SNAPPED his ankle. All he could do was SIT between rocks until a SAR team could extract him. Accidents happen ANYWHERE.

Supposedly climbed a new ice/mixed line on Friday, just to the right of Cathedral Spire. Camped next to the summit (100ft bellow, on Sunshine) for couple of nights. It was so warm on Saturday that we avoided climbing NF, although we planned too. Kind of happy that both my partner and I were able to say 'No' to climbing during conditions that would be fairly dangerous.
