Hotlum-Bolam in late May

Postby AlexeyD » Mon May 07, 2012 2:26 pm

Any words of wisdom on what to expect? Specifically interested in Northgate trailhead access issues, likely glacier conditions and the degree to which early season snow would affect the upper 3rd class rock sections on the ridge. Thanks in advance!

North Gate: Call the rangers. I did a week ago and she strongly assumed that the road will be open by then.

The previous weekend a ranger told me they did not check if Military Pass was through. I would expect it is now, but the roads to trailheads might still be covered with snow. I would like to know that as well. Update please.

A few drifts still block the North Gate TH.
There is another, more direct route.
Straight down from the gully/snowfield between the two glaciers.
Excellent access.

Road is open to North Gate TR. The last 4 miles has water damage and slow going.
