While not a climbing bar per se, the Mammoth Whiskey Creek's pitchers of local brew, half-price happy hour food menu, and LA ski bunny scenery sure are comforting after a cold winter day on the Lee Vining ice.

I love the Lakeland pubs - The Sticklebarn in Langdale, The Traveller's Rest and Ratcher's Tavern in Glenridding. Also The Vaynol Arms near LLanberis. Magic places, wish I could get to any of 'em this year

Rocky Flats Lounge in between Golden and Boulder, CO. Dark Horse Saloon in Boulder is another good one.

My partner and I have been working on a plan to open a bar here in Costa Mesa for some years.

But maybe there's an urgent need for a "climbing bar" somewhere else. What town badly needs such a place? Idyllwild, CA, seems to have a dearth of good bars, but how many climbers hang around the town after their climbs? There are three bars in Lone Pine, CA, and as far as I can tell they are mostly empty, even on summer weekends. Bishop, CA, has a handful of sad bars too; doesn't look like a new bar will be any more successful there.

Mammoth Lakes and June Lake appear to be having some problems.

That leaves Chamonix. Running a hospitality business in France is prohibitively expensive (I have heard that the only way anyone makes it work is by gaming the system).
Nunc est bibendum.

One vote for the Yosemite Mountain Bar. Not because of great drinks or food but great memories. It was a great place to chill after finishing too late on a route, and you want to chill before making food. Ok, rarely did you actually get to making food, and you'd get to the Mountain Bar after they stopped serving food.

I don't know, but was thinking a bar in Lee Vining could be good. Keep it closed in the spring, and fall. Keep it open in summer, and winter. Lee Vining needs a good place to hang out after a day of ice climbing.

It was Josephina's in Truckee! It had this rock wall behind the bartender that had these little army men in climbing poses all roped together. But alas it burned to the ground......gas leak.....go boom!

Isn't that place called Whoa Nellie Deli? Sure, not so much a bar, but, a great place to hang out.
