Congrats Frank. I didn't see any horses when I was there earlier this year either. Still a nice hike. The fog adds an element of mystique.

I added a route page for Bull of the Woods trail on Wheeler Peak. Unfortunately, visibility was very poor when I was there. If anyone has any good pictures of the route, I invite you to add them.

We were fortunate to see many. This one was especially friendly.

No horses for me Friday either. Did see black bears on clingmans dome and sassafras and heard a third on brasstown. South is crawling with the buggers

awesome Joe! Glad you did the six pack! I only have SD & ND road trip left and then have 10 big mountains to climb

Some of you have knocked off quite a few HPs this year while other have tackled some of the challenging western peaks. So let's hear your 2011 accomplishments! I love to gauge the progress of others.

I completed 7 HPs so far this year: GA, KY, NC, SC, TN, VA & NM. I'll hit 3 more next month: AL, FL, MS. That's the most I've ever done in a year.

2011 Accomplishments:
Mt. Washington in February my first winter mountaineering experience
Mt. Mansfield in June my first solo highpoint
Southern Sixpack last week just a lot of hiking but fun
Mt Katahdin I have reservation for in 2 weeks hopefully weather permitting HP #20

AL, IN, OH, ID, and VA this year for 27 total. I'm pleased with where I'm at considering I didn't subscribe to this particular OCD until 2008 I hope next year to actually get to the summit of Rainier (tried once before), maybe Kings Peak, hopeful visits to the deep south and upper midwest. Cheers!

So far in 2011, my son and I have added OK, AZ, MA, VT, NH, RI, NJ and NV to bring our total to 26. We have a trip scheduled next week to add LA and AR.

Mt. Wheeler in NM was my favorite hike this year, I turned back on mt.Elbert in April, and plan to complete ND & SD in November. Had a chance to do CA & NV but got married and couldn't go

Good god that is a lot of highpoints in 2011. Congrats on your wedding and have fun in the Dakotas. You must be racking up the frequent flier miles for sure.

I got a photo of the true Eagle Mountain. Just as you approach the boardwalk at the south end of Whale Lake, you have to step through the trees on the south shore of the lake. There is a little trail, and within 20 yards or so you can see Eagle Mountain clearly.
