Favorite Skeeter Repellent ?

by lcarreau » Thu Aug 09, 2012 4:12 am

On my first trip to Alaska, I brought (and applied) a generous amount of DEET. It didn't seem to work very good.

On my most recent trip, I used a fair amount of "Avon Skin-So-Soft." It actually worked a hell of a lot better than the DEET, and my skin also benefited ... besides getting a few "cat calls" from the Locals, which heightened my self-esteem ..

Can anybody else share a similar experience with them nasty skeeters? What say YOU?

I treat my clothes with permethrin several times a year (mainly as a defense against ticks), and use 100% DEET for extremities. I've seen wide variations in how much people get attacked by mosquitoes.

Right on the money. Having worked on the shores of Hudson Bay for a few years the only thing that worked was DEET, DEET and more DEET plus bug jacket and head-net. In the non-winter months (all 1 to 2 of them) this region has an epic mosquito population. A researcher team found that a person with exposed arms, legs and torso (read can't pay me enough for that assignment) could expect up to 9,000 bites per minute and would actually be in danger of dying from blood loss in as little as 4 hours.
Bring a compass. It's awkward when you have to eat your friends

Maybe that batch of DEET was supplied by Bernie Madoff.

Ultrathon works best.

Encapsulated, so it lasts longer and less is absorbed into your body.

Note OFF! Skintastic is just 7% DEET. The rest of the ingredients are listed as "hippie-useless-feel-good-crap."

To keep this "on topic", can we get a close up of them applying deet to each other? Cuz yes, that's what we were watching, it's over and they got Gold again.
