Refuge des Cosmiques

by andre hangaard » Wed Aug 08, 2012 10:10 am

Last time I visted the Refuge du Goûter on Mont Blanc it was completely impossible to make a reservation advance.
At the end I was lucky to get a last minute "seat".
However. does anyone know if the reservation situation up at the Refuge des Cosmiques is as bad as Goûter?
I plan to visit during September. Cheers.

I gave the Refuge des Cosmiques a call today to ask for a reservation for 4 people for next week Monday. They had availability and booked it for me. Reason I called is because for the last 10 days it's been impossible to get a single spot in the Refuge du Goûter for next Monday. Been calling them daily, getting the same answer: check back tomorrow.

Thanks! Yes, I guess the Cosmiques is easier than the Refuge du Goûter. I think the cost is 38 € for spending the night/breakfast and 57 € for half board. See more info here: http://www.chamoniarde.com/refuge-les-c ... 10002.html

....and Wouter, best of luck on Weisshorn! That's a very serious mountain :-)

Thanks Andre. Climbed it in under 6 hours. Quite pleased with that.

The Cosmiques is much easier to book than the Goúter, was there 2 years a back and all it took was a phone call the previous day but, we just might have been lucky !

Same happened with the Goúter, phoned the day before and had a cancelation ! lady luck must have been on our side, this was mid August as well, a very busy time.

good luck.

Prices for huts vary but, in Chamonix they tend to be more expensive than Zermatt, expect to pay on avarage up to 50 euros with a three course meal and the usual breackfast that you try and force down at 3.30 in the morning.

In the middle of Chamonix as you turn left to go towards the cable station there is a great shop renting out everything from ice screws to crampons, the prices are really cheap, not sure off the top of my head but, I rented a walking axe for around 4 euros a day, hope that helps.

I was there last week, from Sunday until Tuesday. I booked in advance, but the hut was not full at all. I guess there won't be as much people there in September as in August, so it shouldn't be a problem to stay there.

The night, breakfast and dinner will cost you € 57, no reduction for alpine club members. Tea for your trip, which is pretty good, is € 6. Breakfast time at 1, 3, 5 of 7 a.m.

Thank you Mills and Bart! Good info! I perhaps head up there mid September. By the way, anyone who can recommend a simple, cheap and clean hostel down in Cham? Cheers
