CO 14ers Record Attempt In Progress

by thebeave7 » Sun Aug 26, 2012 10:58 pm

It's been all over 14ers.com, but figured I'd share it here as well. John 'Homie' Prater, one of our own from Superio, CO is going after CaveDog's record for ALL the 14ers. He's already several days in and right on schedule. You can follow his SPOT as he climbs the Sangres today and the Sawatch the next two days.

SPOT: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/face ... vdpoA4XijX

Homie's Blog: http://homieprater.blogspot.com/

Hell of a guy, and I think he has a legitimate shot at the record.

Eric

Thanks, Eric, for the heads-up. John is a great guy and I wish him the best.

No kidding....do people really give a shit about this stuff? Guess everyone wants their 10 minutes of "fame". I won't be impressed until the first saucer sled descent of all 14ners....

FYI, the guy writing the blog has WAY too much of a man crush on this guy.

Aren't you a little young to be so crotchety? I can guarantee you Prater isn't doing this for the fame. Big thumbs-down.

Are you kidding me? Do you even have a clue as to what is involved in a serious effort like this? I'm personally not much interested in speed records, but as a mountaineer, I can certainly appreciate the magnitude of the effort and risk and logistical planning involved in a quest such as this. In fact, it is almost inconceivable the level of training and fitness, the mountaineering skill, and especially the mental toughness that is required to even attempt something this difficult. Are you aware of how fast he has climbed over half of the fourteeners, including some serious technical traverses, day and night, with little sleep, sometimes dangerous weather conditions, and to top it off, a debilitating foot injury. Simply awe-inspiring! I just can't begin to comprehend how anyone could YAWN over that (perhaps you are used to opening new routes in the Karakoram in alpine style?).

Homie is an inspiration to climbers everywhere who are working to achieve their own personal climbing goals, no matter how modest, in comparison. The "Crestones Story" in Homie's blog was one of the most memorable blog postings I have ever read. Climb on, Homie!

I’ve been watching this unfold since it started Thursday morning. The thread on 14ers.com has stayed both very active and positive. Gerry Roach & his wife Jennifer are presently helping as drivers. There have been words of encouragement from current record holder Cave Dog and former record holder Andrew Hamilton.

My wife and II have met Homie on a few occasions. We would be sitting on a summit and along he would come running. We’d chat for a few minutes and off he’d run! I’ve had a few long days in the mountains and I’ve spent multiple days on mountains. But this is way beyond what most of us could even think to try. Having been to all these summits and most of the routes it’s fun to watch.

Hell yeah! Go Homie. This is an absolutely monumental effort.
