Hiking Boundary Peak,NV 10/27

by sm0421 » Thu Oct 04, 2012 4:53 am

Hi, I'm planning flying to SAN the last weekend of October and hike the NV highpoint, Mt. Boundary on the 27th (Sat), I'll be driving up from San Diego on Friday, let me know if you want to join me for the trip. It's a 7h drive.

Thanks,
Alex

I'll say more like 8 - 9 hours depending on what kind of vehicle you are driving. The road to the Queen Mine camp area is relatively simple for most any car, but that last part to the trailhead is pretty scary. Go ahead and hit Montgomery while you're up there, a much better peak than Boundary. Nice 2fer1 and 2 states to boot! I tagged them Labor Day weekend and was treated with close encounter of a herd of wild horses.

If all you get is a sedan as a rental, you could also look into the Trail Canyon trailhead. A bit longer to get to, but definitely able to get a car in there. I've taken my Element to both the Queen Mine and Trail, and Queen gave me a few worries in terms of beating up the undercarriage.

Great hiking up there, gorgeous views. Have fun!

Although it didn't look impossible I was suprised to see how much snow appeared to be lingering from our recent storm on the east side of that section of the range when driving in from Utah to the Bishop area three days ago. Seemed that area may have caught more than comparible elevations that are mostly dry now in the eastern Sierra.
