I figured this is worth posting as a new topic. Has anyone tried this option? http://theadventureblog.blogspot.com/20 ... turns.html

Wow, very interesting. I was using a Thuraya last year coupled with a macbook air to send sms, emails with pics, surf the net If I could do that with my iphone would be simply awesome.

No Sat Sleeve developed yet for the iPhone 5, only the 4 and 4S, which is a pity.

For $500 on hardware, and $8 a minute for something that has no coverage in americas--there is a better option for Summitpost users.
Check this out...
Delorme Inreach SE http://www.inreachdelorme.com

$299 for hardware..and as little as $10 a month for full global coverage via the Iridium Satellite network.... it has no voice but uses cheaper 2-way SMS text/email, has interactive chat with SOS, plus free GPS navigation on free topo for the world and free NOAA nautical charts.
