Fast-Food Restaurants on the Top of Mt Whitney

by clmbr » Sat Aug 31, 2013 4:48 pm

Sometimes while climbing and tired of all the food I take to the mountains and cannot eat I have a desire for a hamburger, fries and soda (or cold beer), but obviously that type of food is out of reach till coming back to a nearby town in a reasonable time; otherwise, everything is closed anyway.

What if you reach the top of one of so many popular mountains and such fantasy could be fulfilled?

Guten Appetit! :)

There is a cafeteria on top of Mount Washington, the highpoint of New Hampshire. I forgot my lunch once and it sure came in handy.

Would be fairly fun to haul up stoves and make a hot chocolate stand on top of Mt. Shasta during one of the warm and busy summer weekends...very doable too.

That's hilarious!

With what a circus it is on the class 1 route (permits, crowds, wag bags, etc), a McDonalds on the summit doesn't seem too far-fetched.

Don't forget the long-debated ide of putting a Starbucks up there, too. Why not take advantage of the early-morning summiters that need a caffeine 'fix'. :D

We have state highpointers and park pointers (for those trying to reach the high points of the U.S. national parks), maybe we need a name for those who are trying to reach the summits where there is a food/snack provider. I'm trying to think of a catchy one for these intrepid adventurers. Snack pointers? Then some ambitious person can start a list here on SP--I'll offer up Cadillac Mountain (Acadia NP) and Glacier Point (Yosemite).

I don’t really drink coffee while climbing or hiking but for sure many would like that possibility, especially on the top. :D

Turns out you don't need WiFi to keep your facebook updated. I went up the Whitney Trail with my cousin and some of his family a few weeks ago. He would stop every half hour to take another photo to update FB with. He was genuinely unhappy when he couldn't get a signal in places. I wanted to grab it out of his hand and toss it into the talus.

Well if there's gonna be a Chinese massage parlor, how about a medical marijuana clinic? 8)

Oh look, here comes the delivery truck now, making a run up to the Portal!
