Good 3 day Hike/Climb in DAKS

Postby Wendellator » Thu Oct 31, 2013 2:24 pm

I have a map of the Daks high peak region, and was looking for any suggestions for a good 2/3 day hike. We have climbed Mt.Marcy and others, i would like to incorporate some peaks into this but it is not a deal breaker.
Plan on arriving Thurs around noon and leaving Sat afternoon, any suggestions would be appreciated :D

Loop trip? If just in-and-out, go in to Johns Brook and you will have access to a lot of peaks.

I used to recommend loops that involved Avalanche Lake and Colden Lakes, but I don't know the status of the hitch-up-Matildas after Irene.

I would be up for either, Johns brook sounds good, when we were up there last winter there was still alot of dead fall from Irene.

Garden parking lot. As you're driving through Keene Valley, you'll see the big DEC sign pointing to the left in the middle of the Village. Drive in a couple of miles to the lot (which is $7 BTW). Was just in there a couple of weeks ago and mIght head in that way again this Friday to hit the new Catastrophic Chaos slide on Saddleback.

Moapa - all the major infrastructure damage has been repaired so the route along Avalanche Lake is open for business and there is a new bridge at Marcy Dam. I haven't been in from the Loj since just after Irene in 2011 when the damage was fresh but have read many recent reports of hikes passing through that way.
