So Cal Snow Avi Center 2nd Season!

by denloe » Fri Nov 15, 2013 5:27 am

Hey folks!

Just wanted to post an update for those of you who live and/or play in the Los Angeles area mountains. So Cal Snow Level 4 Avalanche Center is gearing up for its second season. Last year was a huge success. We held our first free Avalanche Awareness presentation, and were able to bring quality weather and snowpack information to the general public throughout the season.

However for the 2013/14 season we have much, much bigger plans! We already have 4 free Avalanche Awareness classes scheduled and are working on a few more. We also hope to hold our first annual fundraiser in early January. Though still in the works we are looking at venues in the Baldy area, and expect to be raffling, auctioning, and giving away gear and passes to the local mountains. Another focus this season will be a beacon basin. We are working closely with the National Ski Patrol to make this a reality. It will serve patrollers, other industry professionals, and the general public. Other events in the works include Beacons and Beer nights, as well as a Companion Rescue seminar. Check out the website at socalsnow.org for dates and information.

Finally I wanted to shout out to all of you who were involved in the growth of the center last season. Whether you donated your time, knowledge, or some of you hard earned pay, we appreciate it! You all were a big part of making this happen. Please keep up the support. The center is 100% nonprofit, 100% volunteer, and 100% of your contributions go directly towards improvements.

Pray for snow.
