Tablerock Mountain (Linville Gorge) Wildfire

by dwhike » Wed Nov 13, 2013 6:46 pm

A small wildfire is burning on Tablerock Mountain at Linville Gorge. It's only 100 acres in size but is 0% contained according to the article below...and its been windy today. Hopefully some wet weather this weekend will help out. All prospective visitors should take note...

Up to 2200 acres. Over the last decade seems like fires getting more frequent in the gorge

Probably has to do with man meddling. We keep putting these things out and containing them, then we get an overabundance of dead undergrowth and dead stands. Fires are natural, man putting them out is not.

Yesterdays rain only knocked about 400 acres off the fire...this is today's map...looks like it has plenty of room to grow if it wants to...

2800 acre fire area. I went and took a look from Wiseman's View on the west rim of the gorge and damage didn't look too bad. Went up Table Rock to have a look around, looks like most of the damage is isolated to the ground. I will have to hike in and check out the fire lines when I have time.
