technical routes on Blanca Peak

by skyward22 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 6:02 am

In this photo my understanding is that the red line is the Gash Ridge (AKA East Ridge). What is the ridge circled in blue? Has anyone on SP climbed it? Is this on the NE Face?

In this photo the Gash Ridge is seen again in red, but from a different vantage point. Are there any routes on the SE Face (Green Box)?

Any beta would be much appreciated! Cheers!

Actually the Blue Ridge is Gash, the red one is the south ridge, which is sometimes used as a descent of Gash, but is technically trespassing. The SE face is also trespassing. Anything south of the Gash ridge through the Iron Nipple (including Mt Lindsey) is on a private ranch. Lindsey can be climbed from the NW, but I am not sure about Blanca's south ridge and SE face and where the ranch stands on climber access relative to those.

We tried to do Gash last fall but it was icy so we turned northeast (left) at the base went up "Huerfanito" instead. Others could hopefully offer better first hand knowledge.

Thanks!

Can you identify the ridges in the 2nd photo? I seem to have everything mixed up...

In the second photo, the red one is Gash and the yellow one is the south ridge (one you have red in the first photo)

While we are talking about this area, does anyone know of any routes that have been done on the east face of Ellingwood Point?

If you need a project partner, remember who inspired you!
I've been looking at the E Face of Ellingwood too, among others. Google Earth has opened up a lot of new route possibilities for me.
