i can't speak for san jacinto area, but since this thread is specifically about baldy and san g, i can say that the san g area still looks pretty bleak for this time of year.

San Jacinto got nothing to speak off few days ago and today it is (so far) just flying snow, very light. Conditions are not significantly different than last week. 3-4 inches of hard snow above 8.000-8500'.

Baldy and Baden-Powell seemed to be holding snow above 7500' today. I was on Gleason, and there were patches starting at 6400' or so. Sorry, no pics. I was on my bike, and racing the sun.

Penelope and I hiked the Marion Mountain Trail to San Jacinto Friday the 7th. The trailhead gate off Highway 243 in Idyllwild is open, even if the board at the start of the road says otherwise. There was some snow starting at about 7,000' and continuous snow cover of about 4-6 inches (hard snow in the morning) higher up. We used neither crampons nor snowshoes and the snow cover is not very deep.

There were no signs of previous parties on the upper trail above Little Round Valley. We had a bit of fun trying to locate the notch above. Pen took a compass reading on it as the trail disappeared completely in that area. We missed the notch by about 100 yards. So that's the only place where one cannot just follow the trail. There was nobody on the mountain and no footsteps close to the summit. Wonderful day, fairly warm weather, go do it...

Skied Jepson on March 16 from Jenks Lake Road. Snow started around Dry/Dollar Junction and was good for skiing all the way to the summit. The bowl was getting thin though with too many rocks sticking out. May no longer apply, we need more snow, this BC skiing season was only two weeks long in SoCal.

FWIW: I climbed Gorgonio via Vivian Creek today. There is snow on the trail beyond High Creek Camp. It's not continuous, but in places it's more than just occasional patches. It was still consolidated by early afternoon. There are usually enough tracks to follow the trail. Microspikes were helpful in a few icy spots.

13 April 2014 : I hiked Baldy from Manker Flats via the Ski Hut and the trail is devoid of snow. From the summit, I could see some snow coverage on the northern face.
