Late last night, my wife and I got back from 10 day hiking/scrambling trip to Evolution Basin. We went in and out via Lamark Col. No need for either crampons or ice axe.
No snow left at all. We scrambled the Hermit, Goddard and Huxley with not a speck of snow on any of them. The Sierra backcountry looks like late August during normal snow years. Mosquitos are somewhat of a problem around Darwin Lakes, Evolution and Wanda Lake. A bit of a tough climb to Lamark Col from North Lake (over 3,500 feet of gain), but worth the effort. The scenery starting with the Col and continuing down the Darwin Canyon is wonderful. Go do it...
