Preventing frostbite

by Bill W » Thu Oct 29, 2015 6:57 am

Hi guys. I'm not a climber. However, I dreamed of climbing when I was much younger. My area of expertise is heat transfer. I've seen quite a few climbers on TV who were missing fingers and/or toes. An idea popped into my head which you all probably know about already. But I have to mention it. If you're in danger of losing your fingers, pull your arms out of your coat sleeves and hold them next to your torso. You can also put your fingers under your armpits. There's a lot more heat available next to your chest than way out at your fingers. Save your fingers, and you can enjoy future climbs more.

As for toes, about all I can think of is electric socks. And take extra batteries!

Discussion is welcome. Please share these tips.

Bill,

These 'tips' are very well known among climbers, but thanks for thinking of us.

The Bunny Boots don't look like they are compatible with automatic crampons, but do seem to have a weld for semi auto. :)

Or you could just turn your heatable jacket and boots up to high. No point in roughing it.
