Has anyone been up to Rock Creek lately? I know it has snow, but just want to get an idea of the conditions (snow, avvy, anything) comments , concerns.

I was up there earlier today. The road was open to Rock Creek Lake. There was some "snow" at the parking area but it was pretty cruddy. Saddlebag Lake was killer though.

I'm heading up in the Little Lakes Valley this weekend to check out Mt. Abbot. Does anybody have any updated info for the Rock Creek area? In particular, is it possible to drive all the way to the Mosquito Flat trailhead? What's the snow like around Ruby Lake? Thanks in advance!

[Since this is my first post, I suppose I should introduce myself: Hi, I'm Ben, and I live just outside of Sacramento. A few years ago I decided that I needed to spend more time reconnecting with the great outdoors, and I've been hooked on hiking and backpacking ever since. For the most part, I stick with warm-weather day trips around the Tahoe area, but I've slowly been growing a little more adventurous. I've found this website to be a great place to be inspired and to research new places to visit!]

As of Monday, the road was closed just past Pie in the Sky.

...which is a store that sells pie near Rock Creek Lake, about 2 miles from the end of the road.

Oh wow, I thought it would be plowed by now. Anyone know when it should open up completely? I was hoping by the 12th.

Yeah, it's open til the pack station. There was a lot of snow on the road after that still (as of June 1).

Any idea what the snow is like closer to the crest? I'm hoping I can get out for an ascent of Mt. Abbot in a couple of weeks. In an ordinary year I'd assume what snow remaining is pretty consolidated and I wouldn't need snow shoes? Can anyone confirm otherwise?

Bring the shoes, it wasn't that consolidated. It might be better in a few weeks though.

It was pretty damn warm (HOT) at Robinson Lake (Onion Valley) today. The snow SUCKED!! If it wasn't so beautiful out there, it would have been a waste of 518 miles driving.
Anyway, I would assume the snow at Little Lakes is suffering too. I couldn't get purchased going up to University Pass - so dam mushy! Lotsa rock fall and sloughing too.

Looks like temps will be about 20 degrees cooler this coming weekend. Hopefully that helps.
