Snow free the whole way... A great, LONG day in the mountains.

Great report. It has inspired me to consider doing something similar, though I am not normally a peakbagger. I'll study a map and figure out a way to do it and stay off the Vivian Creek trail. I hate that trail.

We did something similar a couple years ago as a four-day backpack trip: http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonov/se ... 913477174/ It was great. Wanted to do it for decades and might do it again this year, though we'll come down through the South Fork drainage next time.

I remember reading in the Inland Empire hiking book anyone will a reasonable amount of fitness should be able to do the 9 Peaks Challenge.

That's nuts. They must be talking about any triathlete with a reasonable amount of fitness.
He steered with care.

Start on Vivian Creek trail and after 1 mile hop off and ascend Dobbs SW ridge. You won't see anyone on that. And as a bonus, you'll make the 9 peak into 10 peaks!

Dobbs definitely kind of "sticks out" while you are moving from one peak to the next. It almost beckons you..... Ha, but I'm not going to try anything for awhile a now. I'm in official "rest mode." :)

Yeah, I'll have to look up the quote exactly, but that thought was ringing in the back of my head throughout the day... I will say it is amazing to feel the difference in my legs from ascending and descending. It's almost like someone swaps my legs out for a different pair. Total night and day contrast.
