Guess I was lucky, in my haste of getting to the trail head, I didn't take Deet with me. But going up Mount Tallac, wasn't a problem. None around.

Hiked up Cathedral Lakes trailhead on Friday. Saw a few milling about over the weekend but no bother.

Three days of warm weather, the lakes melting, what do you get: I return to the trailhead today, drop my pack, and they lit me up like a christmas tree!

South Sierra high country between Kennedy Meadows and Cottonwood pass, East Kern area. Heavy and persistent skeeters on the weekend of June 26/27. Thicker at higher elevations.

Snow melt just finishing up. Abundant water sources.

They were persistent little a#$es on the North Fork LP Creek, from TH as far as UBL or so. It was okay if you kept moving, but don't think about stopping to take a break....
My long sleeves were even getting attacked when I stopped.

Picaridin

If you do try this stuff, use the double strength stuff, but 100% deet is way more effective for way longer.
