Slideshow songs

by MTcutts » Mon Sep 21, 2009 5:22 pm

Does anyone have any good suggestions for background music on slideshows of trips in the mountains? Doesn't necessarily have to be all climbing pictures, but a mixture of hiking, climbing, fishing, camping, etc. Just a slideshow of various trips in the outdoors.

So far, I like these:

Blues Traveler - The Mountains Win Again
Paul Simon - Kodachrome
Travis Tritt - It's a Great Day to be Alive

What do you think?

Went to a Mark Hudon slide show of Yosemite free climbing nearly 30 years ago. He set a chunk of impressive slides to the Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter. To this day whenever I hear that song, my mind thinks of that show and I start jonesing to go climbing.

From a "mountain/backcountry" pespective, maybe Fleetwood Mac's Landslide:

"I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down....."

If its a long one I always thought "Lateralus" by Tool would be good.

I think that the ideal music for a slideshow on the Andes would be Inca flute music- it captures the wildness, mystique, & beauty of the range, area, & people wonderfully. Same thing for music from the other ranges' inhabitants & cultures.

John Denver songs do well for outdoorsy slideshows.

Rocky Mountain High
Country Roads
Wild Montana Skies

Love that song!

Darn, you beat me to it! Another suggestion would be South Side of the Sky, by Yes. That's a cool song. It might be hard to find though, I don't know. I had to convert it from a record onto a CD, and then download it.

If you want some music to support the photos then go instrumental.
Bach's Cello Suite #1 in G (minor?) is good.
Kaki King
or a couple of Mason Jennings would be good.
