Snake Dike from Emerald Pool

by craig512 » Fri Aug 30, 2013 5:48 am

I'm looking at climbing Snake Dike in a few weeks and was looking at approach routes via google Earth. Seems to me that after you cross the Merced above Vernal falls you can cut back above Emerald Pool and meander North up the West side of Mt. Broderick. Anybody ever tried this? Looks much shorter...and lots steeper...

I've been that way, but it was 30+ years ago and now I suffer from CRFS.

(Can't Remember Fu..... Sh..)

I do remember that I stepped on a wasp nest just west of Broderick and was stung about 20 times, mostly on the head

HaHa, thanks SLR. At least you didn't need your head to climb I guess?! I'll take a closer look when I'm heading past Vernal and think about it. It's been my experience that trails are made in places for a reason...

There is a thread on Supertopo about this route, apparently it goes, but it seems it had a little stretch of 5th class in there. It was a while ago that I saw the thread, but you could probably search it up.
