Solo shr section

Postby Thehermit » Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:46 pm

Planning on doing a section of the high route late this summer.maybe up into bear lakes via french canyon return over italy pass. Feather pass and itay pass seem like the major obstacles. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Im new to long distance off trail travel but ive backpacked plenty

both passes involve scrambles over tallus fields. As long as you are comfortable rock walking/hopping with a large pack you will be fine. Sounds like a fun adventure. Bear Lakes Basin is my favorite place in the Sierras, have fun.

Has anyone taken their dog into this area? I read a report on high sierra topix of going over lamark col w/ a dog. that seems much harder.p.s. I cant register on that site.

Dogs aren't allowed in the National Park; so I guess the dog would be limited to going up to the Col, but not over into the national park.
