Steve House Slideshow & Book Signing in NYC, Meet Local

by welle » Tue Oct 13, 2009 5:38 pm

This has grown impromptu out of this thread: http://www.summitpost.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=48650

Some of local SPers heading to Patagonia SoHo Store tomorrow night to meet Steve House. We are meeting for a quick bite and beer beforehand at The Broome Street Bar (http://broomestreetbar.ypguides.net/) 5-5.30pmish.

The reading and slideshow is on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6.30pm.

It's in SOHO 101 Wooster just off Spring Street.

Also, if anyone is around next Monday, October 19 and has missed the Reel Rock Tour in New Paltz, there is a show in Manhattan - raffle prizes include a full cam set by Metolius: http://reelrocktour.com/#/calendar/

Thank you for making a special thread. I didn't feel too bad about getting into drift mode since the OP may also attend.

Will we need anything to recognize each other?

No problem. I know Alpinisto in person. Maybe if we meet in the bar - look for people holding Steve House's book?

Actually it's on a better block than any on Broome. It's on Wooster btwn Spring and Prince. SOHO is actually a pretty trendy nabe. Patagonia fits right in. Been there a few years now.

When you see women fleeing the bar, trying to hold down their food...that usually means I've arrived.

I posted back on the Viesturs/House thread that, unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can make it tomorrow night. I'm gonna try to catch the lecture in New Paltz over the weekend, though.

Alpinisto, it's supposed to rain on Saturday - don't hold your breath for climbing ;)
Anita, here are the book tour dates: http://www.thecleanestline.com/2009/08/ ... dates.html. I would also call the Mountaineer in Keene Valley to see if they could book him.

So any Nostalgia Lovers out there?

Wednesday, September 29, 7 pm

Glen Denny made some of the early ascents of Yosemite's El Capitan in the 1960s, before moving on to the Cordillera Huayhuash and the Hindu Kush. Although he has several college degrees, his resume says Education: Camp 4.

Join Glen at Patagonia's NYC SoHo store for a slide show chronicling Yosemite climbing in the 1960s, with vast granite expanses and climbers creating the audacious big-wall routes that defined the valley's Golden Age. You'll get an insider’s view of campground life, revealing the personalities and parties, the preparations for major ascents, the loves and dreams of the denizens of Camp 4. Glen will be signing copies of his book, Yosemite in the '60s, available for purchase
