Unknown Photo

by sierraman » Fri Feb 03, 2017 7:15 pm

The home page of the Tulare County internet site (http://www.tularecounty.ca.gov) displays a photo titled just "mountains in Tulare County". The main peak in the photo looks a lot like Mt Silliman from the north, but none of the surrounding peaks look right. Can anybody ID where the photo was taken from?

I'm guessing Fin Dome and Painted Lady from somewhere in Rae Lakes Basin.

So the big peak in the middle would be Mt. Rixford? If so, that would be ironic, since that's in Fresno County not Tulare County. Should we tell them?

If I'm right, then yes it is, with the other being "Falcor." Maybe offer them a photo of Tulainyo Lake to use instead?

Silly me, I was searching in Sequoia NP for the location of the photo, since that's in Tulare County, and nothing was coming up. It never occurred to me a photo on the Tulare County internet site home page labeled "mountains in Tulare County" would not have been taken in Tulare County. Crazy, particularly since there are an infinite number of impressive mountain photo's actually taken in Tulare County they could have used.
