[quote="ExcitableBoy"]Is it me, or do the older boots (Scarpa Inverno, La Sportiva K2) accept crampons better than than the newer, asymetrical boots? Every crampon I have owned fits my Invernos well, but my newer, techy boots (La Sportiva Trango Extreme) seem to be more finicky.
I had the same issue. In the last few years, boots and crampons fit became a problem, especially if you, like me, remember the days of great fitting crampons. I had an incredible problem fitting G-14s on all of my boots a few years back. Good looking crampons, but ended up sending them back. My techy boots consist of La Sportiva Trango Lights and Scarpa Triolets and for those G-12 worked much better. My old plastics and leather boots with welts were no problem with any of the crampons.
I guess we just have to try more boot/crampon combinations these days before we buy.
BTW I used my old Lowe Fangs last year here on winterized Tahquitz Rock because, get this, my old age training regimen requires me to put a HUGE weight on my feet to get them stronger...
