sjarelkwint wrote:What route is he actually climbing? It seems that he only writes in BC and not when on route. Also it seems from his reports that he is climbing alone and not really in a group and that it seems like he is trying to do anna solo but also no O2 and no sherpas.

Can it be that he isnt on the main route but is trying a different route? Seemed like going to C2 was just messing around to get some acclimatisation in ... Though not the ideal place to mess lol

I thought he was doing the Dutch Rib variant... not 100% positive, tho.

It's been around 10 days since he last posted, seems like a long time to be above base camp on an 8,000er.

Praying for good news,

Word I saw is that Don is on his way out, as are Soria and others, no summit. From what Ueli Steck just posted, Don is not joining him on Everest.

Good job by Don on not pushing up in ridiculous conditions and dying, and coming home. I can't understand why anyone would want to climb that route.

From ExWeb:
"Annapurna is folding, all remaining climbers (Tunc, Don, Badia etc) are safe and headed home."

Thanks for the update, Damien - nice to know they're all headed home safely. Agree about Annapurna NF - dicey at best. I admire the folks who make the decision on ANY 8,000er to head down sans summit if the conditions aren't safe. That avalanche...

I'm looking forward to new pics from Don of his Annapurna NF attempt - his pics from the earlier attempt (SF) are among my favorites on SP.

I appreciate the response & the info, I'm relieved to learn that these great climbers are safe and will live to create more stories in the majestic Himalaya.

Peace,

Big Lew
