I think that they both were Spaniards but I'm not sure: http://www.rts.ch/info/regions/berne/41 ... eiger.html (in French)

Terrible News, may they RIP. :(

I was just in the Bernese Oberland this past friday and saturday. The weather was bad on thursday (day I arrived at Luzern) and on Friday (I drove past Interlaken up to Lauterbrunen and took the trams up to the top of the Schilthorn). It was misty, rainy and very cloudy. I think the snow/sleet level was about 3200m. But It rained a lot on my drive back to Luzern friday night and when I arrived at Grindelwald saturday morning I could see fresh snow above about 3400M on most of the Peaks including the Wetterhorn and the Eiger.

Waterfalls and rivers were running very strong and there was water everywhere. Seems that it has been a very wet few weeks.

Photo from the top of Schilthorn looking east friday afternoon.

When I drove out saturday afternoon the weather was going downhill again.
