Michael Darcy died while climbing Gooseberry Peak in Idaho.

The news reports at this point are a little sketchy - apparently he was climbing alone and fell a short distance below the summit. He called for help on his cell phone and by the time rescuers arrived he had died.

this is so very sad. he has some great pictures and pages, and I'm sure he was an even better person who shares the same passion for the mountains that we all have. RIP

Condolences to family and friends.

His page has been memorialized, but if anyone who knew Michael wants to add something personal in tribute, please let us know. It is usually nice to have more of a personal touch when it comes to this.

I had never met Michael in person, but we exchanged many emails over the years. He was a very knowledgeable, friendly and humble man. Rest in peace Michael. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

A tragic day like this reminds us of our mortality and the inherent dangers of the pastime we enjoy so much.
