Having trouble finding crater camp outfitter. I have read crater camp is being closed but would very much like to camp at the crater before this happens. I have camped at almost 20,000 on Aconcagua so I know what is envolved. Does anyone have any suggestions on a guide service. I would not mind approaching by the Western Breach or the other route which is the Barafu and then down to crater. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The western breach route was closed but now is reopen. as mountain guide and according to your questions, i would suggest you climb throught western breach route and descend through Mweka route.. Too bad if they're closing crater camp. That was far and away the nicest camp and most enjoyable day of my Jan 2009 climb. The only day it didn't rain, too, but I think that was just because we were above the clouds.

I used Paul Robert Shayo in Moshi for the trip. Being solo and on a budget, his was the most reasonable price I found. We used the Western Breach route which was great. The guide tried to hit me up for $50 to walk down into the crater, though, saying that it was "very dangerous." The obvious dangers, of course were: see that big hole in the center? don't fall in! Didn't pay and strolled on through. I certainly recommend them. Good service and decent food but definately on the budget end. his email is: prshayos@hotmail.com.

I was 62 on that climb. A nice easy hike for the senior citizens.

I only read about the closing on one web site and that was Moshi Expedition and Mountaineering. They were supposed to close it because of the trash and crap.
I also hope they do not close it. Did you see much trash? I will also be 62 during my attempt but I really dont feel any different than I did at 40, 50, 0r 60. I might be a little stiffer in the mornings of course Im talking about my knees and elbows. Good luck to you on any future climbs.

Here is a company go-kili though while not cheap will get you to the summit the way you want to go via the Western Breach and the Crater
