Late season inquiry

I'm looking for a good classic climb that can be done pretty late in the season (early September) without too much worry. Something not too technical and within a days drive of Frankfurt would be nice. Any suggestions?

do you mean as a walk/scramble or with ropes? Alone or with a partner?

Just to clarify it a bit

The guy who's coming with me is not very experienced, so a walk/scramble is more what I'm looking for. We're both getting back from Iraq, so somewhere that offers some solitude would be nice.

Wilder Kaiser in Austria is good for both walking/scrambling and rock climbing. You can get to it reasonably quickly by car or train. Solitude might be a problem.. but there again if you´ve not much time you can´t "bury" yourself somewhere. I think the Kaiser is just great! Also the Zahmen Kaiser (tame) is nice and pretty too, just on the other side of the valley and are interlinked at the Stripsenjoch.

That´s my tip,´there are loads more possiblities though. Berchtesgadener Land in Bavaria offers a lot too (The Watzmann for example)

The Lizumer Alps offers good walking that might be a little quieter, but it´s a tick further into Austria.

Think about stying in a hut...then the rushis not so great! If you´re just back from "that place" then a few days in the hill will do you a power of good!

If you know of anything with only a few technical sections, I'm planning on taking my friend to the gym beforehand to practice.

I´ll put a list together. If nothing happens send me a PM to remind me :)

Do you want the Wilder Kaiser?

thanks

Hey Charles, I forgot to tell you thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to go to Munich for Oktoberfest and then check out the Watzmann or the Zugspitze on the way back.
