2 climbers died in scotland in the cairngorm area. Coire an t-Sneachda

The climbers were found on the hillside about a mile from the Cairngorm Ski area car park, rescuers said.

The pair had managed to walk two or three miles out from the climbing area after abseiling down, and most probably succumbed to the weather. winds recorded upto 100 mph and temp dropped to -20

The men, aged 18 and 23.

Bloody bad news. Particularly at such a young age.

Weather was nasty even down here in the Lakes, especially to the west. I was going to do Jack's Rake (Langdale fells) but thought better and had a miserable day on Anglezarke moor instead.

Obviously not as miserable as the parents/friends of the dead climbers will have had.

Cheers,
Neil

Sad news indeed. The Cairngorms, in particular, can be a brutal place.

Yes it really can be an unbelievably harsh area. Such a short distance away from help.
The first time I went there the gusts were reported over 150mph, and with blizzards. We kept in the corrie. My heart goes out to the families, and survivors. Sad news, so early in the winter season, if it can even be called that yet!

One of the climbers killed, Graeme Cooper, was a regular poster on UKclimbing. I was infact reading one of his posts on extreme sledding last week..
