Since others started threads in different languages (German, Italian and Spanish), I wanted to see how many Polish members we have on SummitPost. I know there are quite a few, so I wanted to see who they are and have an opportunity to post in Polish.

I'm not Polish and I don't speak a word of the language.

I'm only posting here because I just received an old book (1956) called "Na Szczytach Tatr" I can't understand a word of it except it's obviously about the Tatra Mountains. Lots of black and white photos of the scenery and climbers using the equipment of the day. Looks like they used a lot of home-made gear in those days - etriers, chest harnesses made from rope etc.

Not sure what to do with it. It may be of historical interest. Maybe I should scan a couple of the photos. Anyone interested in translating the captions into english?

Is that the one written by Kazimiesz Saysse- Tobiczyk? He wrote several books of that series- that some kind of encyclopedia of Polish mountaineering.
If it's not forbidden by law so you may scan the photos and put it on SP I may do the translation- no problem.

Regards
jacek

Hi jacek.

Yes that is the author.

I have no idea what the copyright on this book is. There is nothing at the front of the book that looks like copyright warnings, but there is something at the back that looks like it could be....

Can you tell me what this means please:

Wydawnictwo Sport I Turista Warszawa 1956
Naklad 58.205 egz Ark. wyd.31. Ark druk. 28,5 (61x86/8 )
Papier rotogr. kl. III, 120g. Oddano do skladania 5. IV. 1956.
Podpisano do druku w listopadzie 1956. Druk ukonczono
w styczniu 1957. Zam 1201

Zaklady Graficzne im. Marcina Kasprzaka w Poznaniu K-7-3580

No to fajnie, miejmy nadzieje, ze sie to rozkreci.
Pozdrawiam, Krzysiek.

Hey Dad, welcome to the Polish forum. Good to have you here ;) Looks like there are quite a few people here to help with translating the captions. Would love to see those old photos.
Cheers!

I'll be happy to contribute some of the photos for the enjoyment of you blokes on the Polish team. I'll start scanning when I get back to my office.

Cheers everyone.
