Hey all, can anyone give me some info on touring companies to go with, or to stay away from for that matter, for the tour Mont Blanc tour hike? My wife and I will be going to do the hike in late aug early sept. We want to do a 7 day hike and want to pay no more then $1200cdn. We would also like to do a self-guided tour and are in extremely good shape so a strenuous and high altitude route would be preferred.

If anyone has done it and would have any recommendations they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Friends of mine did this tour with GAP Adventures a couple of years ago and had a super experience. Not sure of the cost, but don't think it was too pricey. I've also done trips with GAP and was very impressed with them.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tour MB tour hike" but if you're talking about trekking it's pretty easy to do on your own. There's a book about trekking the alps (which I think is the title) that has most of the info you'd need. One idea might be to trek from Chamonix to Courmayeur and back (assuming you know how to safely cross glaciers). You could go straight across the massif one way and return via the subalpine flank, not using any of the cable cars.

Hi Forts,

You 100% DO NOT need a guide service for the typical Tour du Mont Blanc hike. I did the majority of the tour last year and it's very straightforward.

Here's my trip report from last year: http://www.viewsfromthetop.com/forums/s ... post199949

I can make recommendations for maps, hotels, and for the pros/cons of doing the main vs. alternative routes for the entire length of the loop. PM me for further info!

It's an awesome trip...Enjoy!
