Central-Europe-related question

Hello,

While wandering randomly with my eyes on maps the other day I noticed a motorway is under construction from Brno to Vienna.
This is super, because it places the city where I live, Wroclaw, almost equally far from the Alps than the Tatras ! (at least the Eastermost region).
Does anyone know something about the advancement of the constuctions ? I read once it was to be ready for 2010 but not sure. In some other places 2014 or 2016 is mentionned.
The other side of my question is : what's interesting to climb near Vienna to justify the long trip ? I read about Rax and Schneeberg. Any other interesting mountains around ?

Eric

Looked at the map, it's not much of a detour if you drive from Brno to Bratislava, and then to Austria. You can even pass by the infamous Hainburger Gebirge  and Neusiedler See / Fertő-tó, which is BTW a superb place for biking!

As far as I remember the Bratislava-Vienna section is kind of messy (frequent traffic jams, especially near the airport), what's more you have to stop to buy one more motorway sticker just for few kilometers !

Well, you're not obliged to use the Austrian motorway for that short section.

I've done it a couple of times, for example going to Slovenia (the goal was to catch the motorway south from Wien)... I think I'll try the Brno-Wien alternative next time !
