Hi! Are you Rose the glaciologist who I contacted a couple months ago?
I finally found the report where it was mentioned. Can't link it directly, so here's the main page of the "Prokletije" Mountaineering Sports Club from Plav:
http://www.psd-prokletije.org/Click "Planinarske Ture" (mountain trips) and choose "Maja-Popluk 2009-10-07". At the bottom there's the interesting bit:
My translation:
One interesting thing for the end. While crossing the glacier on our way back we noticed a thin steel cable that was tightly fixed across the glacier several metres from the surface, and there was one more cable fixed to the first one, going down vertically to the ice surface. This cable is for measuring the thickness of ice during the whole year and it is precisely at 2000 m a.s.l. Who fixed it there, we don't know.
Those guys crossed your glacier to climb the col with 'vampire's fangs', descended to the other valley and climbed Maja Popluks, then returned the same way and found that cable. If I get it right it was on your glacier below Maja Kolacit and vampire's fangs. Some native speakers from Montenegro-Serbia-Bosnia-Croatia will surely correct any mistakes I made
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Kamil
