Hi everyone,
It looks like I'll be moving back to Deutschland this summer and I wanted to learn more about the climbing around Stuttgart. What is it like? Which places are crowded on weekends? Danke!

Way back when I was stationed in Stuttgart I remember many "training" areas within a half hours drive average 300ft.

Check with the guys of the 10th Special Forces at the Panzer Kaserne (Panzer Barracks) in Böblingen near Stuttgart, we did training allot and they can tell you the locations.

Ill be in Tuebingen from June 10-22 and get out of class at 1 every day. I am down to climb any afternoon within an easy drive/public transport of Tuebingen/Stuttgart. Want to go climb something? I can travel somewhere the weekend of the 16-17 as well.

There is climbing about 25/30 miles SE of Stuttgart in the Swabische Alb. Have a look for guidebooks to the Blautal (there is a new one out). http://www.urbanrock.com/blautal

Not real close but manageable:

On fine weather weekends you'll have competition, though. Also, 2 - 3 hours of driving take you to the Allgäu Alps. Lots of stuff there. But the motorways will be jammed during all summer weekends since all of Europe has to pass through here to get to their holiday locations.

And generally into the eastern alps is not that far.
