I'm looking to complete a section of the Tauernhoehenweg (Ankogel, Sonnblick and Hocharn) as part of an extended hut tour (Hochkonig and Watzmann) during the start of September. Whilst I've plenty of experience walking and skiiing in the area upto 2500m this is the first time I will venture over 3000m in the Summer.
Reading through the forums and summit pages I can't deside if I will need to carry Ice axe and Crampons at this time of year (September), it looks as if the are snow and ice free ridgepaths to follow. I'm flying in and out of MUC and have to carry everthing for 14days so weight is important. If conditions are bad I'm happy to change route but, am I stupid even attempt this section without them?
Having skied under these mountains for years I'm really inspired.
