Much better pow, not nearly as snobby as the Skiway by the Freeway.

Wolf Creek? I googled it because I'd never heard of it. Sounds good though. Steep and deep is my language. Probably good for locals like you. But my CO friends would probably just daytrip. I'm wondering if there's any interest from the other flatlanders. I'm thinking to avoid places not near a major airport so we can all just fly in.

The links say it's near Durango and you're right. Accomodation cheaper.

Wolf Creek is not so much near Telluride. There's Red Mountain Pass and all those nasty mountains to go through. Kinda near Durango but better coming in from Pagosa Springs.

The condo, however, sits right on Purgatory slopes. Or, rather they softened their image by calling it Durango Mountain Resort. At least they haven't changed the trail names.

Remember, Colorado is a BIG state and I doubt anyone wanting to ski Wolf Creek would day trip. It's a 7 hour drive in winter from my place near Denver. Heck, you could probably ski Taos while there - that's really close!

PS don't let me toss a monkey wrench into your plans - I'm known for tossing in options just to confuse the issue. I'm probably not in because I have too many other trips planned. Gotta work a few hours to pay for all this debauchery!

You can grab a room for half this much and still have nice digs up close to the gondy. No driving. Plus, if you're going on a ski destination holiday, spend your money on things like good food, drink, new goggles, boots, drink etc.
Having nice lodgings is great to have but it's the other things that make for a great vacation.

Never skied Wolf Creek but I've never heard bad things about it. It typically always comes in first in terms of snowfall.

+1. Paying that much for lodging one wouldn't be likely to spend a lot of time in seems like such a waste! Heck, build me a snow cave and toss me a sixer from time to time.

The membership is under my wife's name, but males too can join the Great Old Broads.

The 92 extra miles are worth the $45/night I'd get at M6.

Glenwood does have some good values during ski season. I would check hotels.com. I had to get some dental work last year there and it cost me less than $60 to stay in a nice place during ski season. I think it was the America's Best Value?

Closer to Aspen, the Carbondale Super 8 is almost $100 during ski season and fills up fast. You can still find cheaper places in Glenwood though.

And those 92 extra miles are going to add up in car costs and personal time lost, as well as the additional carbon footprint you'll be leaving in CO. BOOOOO!!!!!!

And what if the weather's crap? Lotta fun all that driving will be in a big storm.

Look also on the Sunlight Mountain Resort website - they have some condos at the base that are attractive and not too expensive. You'd have cooking facilities as well which would cut down on the cost of eating out.

I don't know what day passes are at Aspen - I don't do much resort skiing any more. They may not have released day pass prices because they either haven't decided or they're still pushing pass/lodging deals.

Beginning to look like CO is a real good call. Got snow, the temperature to keep it, and more on the way the end of this week.
