My wife and I will be hiking mount elbert next week using the south trail. I was wondering how far you can drive on the 4WD road leading to the trailhead without a 4WD vechicle. If this isn't a option I guess the I could park before the road and walk the road.

Thanks,

My wife and i were up there about a month ago. We left the 4x4 at home and hiked it from the 2wd lot. Depending on your 2wd clearance, you might make it a mile. We have a VW jetta, and I think we only would have made it a couple of hundred yards. I seem to remember plenty of turnaround spots, though.
