The US Forest Service is proposing a $10/day and $20/night fee for visitors to the South Colony Lakes basin. (That means a party of 4 will pay $80 to camp) Here is a chance to make your opinions heard.

On September 29th and October 5th, 2010, several members of the Western Slope No-Fee Coalition will be meeting with the County Commissioners of the two Colorado counties most affected by the South Colony fee proposal, asking them to adopt an official position opposing the South Colony Basin fee proposal. This is your chance to voice your opinions about the fees. Sending a brief and polite message expressing your opposition to the proposed fees will go a long way towards keeping public lands accessible to all. Since these are both public meetings, you are also encouraged to attend in person. Either way, don't let your silence be interpreted as a sign of support for the fees!

Don't keep the news to yourself either. Tell everyone you know who opposes access fees to express their opinion.

Custer County meeting will be September 29, 2010 at 9 am in Westcliffe.

Send messages to the Custer County Board of County Commissioners:
Lynn Attebery, Chairman: lynn@custercountygov.com
Jim Austin: jim@custercountygov.com
Carole Custer: carole@custercountygov.com

Saguache County meeting will be October 5, 2010 at 2 pm in Saguache.

Send messages to the Saguache County Board of County Commissioners:
Sam Pace, Chairman: space@saguachecounty-co.gov
Mike Spearman: mspearman@saguachecounty-co.gov
