This is terrible news. All of us that were good friends with Chris and climbed with him will sure miss him. Almost seems unbelievable that he's gone. Cheers Chris.

So so sorry to hear about Haliku's passing. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

I think his father is a member here at SP. I remember he had posted a photo and in the caption he wrote something like "this is my son Chris, Haliku" Does anyone know Haliku's father's SP name?

We would like to memorialize his page and are requesting input from SP members who knew him. While we would do our best to honor his memory, a more personal touch might be better.

Anyone who wishes to help with this, please use "Send PM to the Elves."

Thank you.

Got the chance to climb with Chris on Team Nacho on Denali. A trip I will never forget. Chris, you will be missed but never forgotten. Thanks for the climbing, the mentoring, and most of all, the great friendship. Cheers.

Here's my idea, all: We will memorialize his page by noting the loss but will add short tributes from friends as well. So if you'd like to make such a tribute, please send it to the elves. Please understand that if there is a high response, as may be the case, we may have to edit tributes for length due to space concerns.

Anyone who has a great deal to say may want to consider writing an article; that has been done before on SP. It might be good to contact the family first, if possible, before doing that in case they would not want that.

This may be a work in progress, and with the holiday almost here, it may take several days, but we will strive to have something up by the end of this upcoming weekend.

Thank you, everyone, and my condolences to the deceased's family and friends.

Rest in peace, buddy.

Chris and I had been friends in the virtual world for years, finally meeting on Rainier in 06 with chicagotransplant. We often shared stories of our weekend adventures throughout the years. As the years passed, it seems like his adventures kept getting more and more fun. Chris was always super nice to me and supportive of my endeavors when some were not. He always had kind words and words of encouragement for me. He was a strong guy with an infectious smile and a kind heart. I'm so sad that I won't see him around anymore and hear his stories. He sure did love the mountains. I feel like we've really lost one of the good guys. This is truly tragic. My heart goes out to all of his friends and family. We will all miss you Chris and remember you for the rest of our lives.

I've just returned from Chris's memorial service. I hadn't expected an open casket, but it was the reality check needed to see that his spirit has moved on.

Chris was the real deal. There was no ego, no BS, nothing but a pure love of the mountains and the outdoors and the broad sweep of people he cared for. The testimonials given today confirmed what we all already knew.

His death at this holiday accentuates even more the fact that we mere mortals have so much to be thankful for. I am blessed to have known Chris and am honored to carry his memory onto the high peaks he loved so well.

Still in shock here.. not sure what to say ...

I climbed with Chris in Ecuador in '07, and we stayed in touch after that. We got together as families last July in Denver. Chris was a charismatic guy who did a lot of things really well. I feel privileged to have known him.

My deep condolences to the family.

Tim, hang in there dude.

Bill

Haven't been on SP much lately. This came as a shock. He often contacted me about unfortunate climbers to make sure they were remembered. Now I have to add him to my page :(. RIP

That is tragic irony.
