Thinking of going down and attempting the Wilsons and El Diente the weekend of the 26th.
I'd like to take 4 days to ensure a higher chance of success.

Anyone interested in some San Juan action? 8)

I'll sit down on the back porch in southern Arizona in my flip flops, enjoying a view of the Santa Ritas with a cold beer and enjoy your trip report. :) I guess I'm getting timid, frail and flimsy in my old age. ;)

Have fun and be safe!

Kiefer, you looking to avoid the 14er crowd over here on the ol' SP? :)

That's a negative, Ghost rider. 8) A buddy and I actually have Pyramid Peak tentatively planned for the March 5th weekend. Plus some friends are heading into the Wilsons this wknd. I'd like to
follow their mottled trail if possible.
Just thought I'd post something here. I haven't had much luck lately in getting people for these harder 14ers (14ers.com) plus, it's been so long since I've posted an invite here.

I know I haven't called ya yet, but Steph and I do plan on heading back in to the Needles and Grenadiers for some rock. Specifically The Trinity Traverse, Wham Ridge and Pigeon and Turrett Peaks.
Plus theree's some other low hanging fruit I'd like to get.

Hey Kiefer, keep me in mind for Trinity Traverse, Pigeon and Turrett, and Jagged if interested. I have all of these on my radar this year. I have some tentative dates planned for trips to the Weminuche. Feel free to paruse the schedule at my website: http://www.100summits.com/articles/my-blog.html

I'm already busy that week, but would be interested in Pyramid or Uncompaghre trips mentioned above.

Kiefer, if conditions improve between now and then (probably a longshot) I might be up for a return trip for El Diente. Dominic, Dwight, John & I got Mt. Wilson Saturday but we turned around at 13,900 feet on El Diente Sunday while attempting a difficult, non-standard route up the SW face. I think the standard route is the way to go but it is currently too loaded for my liking. Lots of snow up there right now. Ken's words on Saturday morning... "Folks, there will be much safer times to climb these peaks". The difference in conditions between his January 2007 trip and now is very dramatic. On both routes we roped up and simulclimbed, placing gear in nearby rock to try to protect ourselves in case of an avalanche (short stretch on Mt. Wilson, but entire way up El Diente). Snow seemed stable but there was a lot of fresh stuff, VERY deep and wallowy. Sunday afternoon there were a bunch of wet slides on the south face of El Diente, triggered at SW facing rock outcroppings. We were descending the face at that time and it was spooky even though the snow on our particular route seemed OK. We protected the hell out of the descent.
