Why Couldn't she pick one of the 50 or so unnamed peaks around Aspen?

These people want to put an Aspen associated name on this classic symbol of the down valley.
Can't let down valley trash have anything.

If your going to try to rename this mountain, name it the original Ute name.

Also there is already a "John Denver Peak" is Alaska.

I know John did a lot of good things but I'm not for renaming. It was already named for this guy (info from a secret web source).
Mount Sopris History: Mount Sopris is named in honor of Captain Richard Sopris who in July of 1860 led a prospecting expedition up the Roaring Fork Valley. He was the first man of European descent to soak in the hot spings in Glenwood Canyon. He later went on to gain prominence as Denver's Mayor (1878-1881), even commisioning the creation of Denver's City Park.

There are already plenty of un-named peaks, several above 13k, in Colorado. No need to re-name one of the peaks of Mt. Sopris. I wish this woman would focus her energies on getting another peak named after Mr. Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr (aka John Denver). Maybe some un-named 13er could be renamed Thank God I'm a Country Boy Peak.

The book "Under the Midnight Sun" speaks of a peak they named "John Denver Peak" in Greenland.

Because some call Alaska "Land of the Midnight Sun", my guess is that the original poster (now inactive) got confused and was thinking of the above.
