Weather was beautiful on Sunday. Snow had a nice crunchy crust. (in the early AM at least)

tkoooooooooo wrote:Thanks! I've not done a whole lot of hiking with a video camera until recently. I love it. There is a video that I recently uploaded from Yosemite on Thanksgiving weekend. It was beautiful, but not a ton of water in the falls, but still beautiful. You can just youtube search "thatcherk1" to see the other videos that I've posted.

Nice videos! What camera and tripod/fluid head are you using?

Panasonic HPX170. It's the new and improved version of the HVX200. I didn't bring my O'Connor head because of weight. I brought my old Bogen still tripod. Tension head, not fluid. I was surprised how "fluid" I could get the panning shots.

Nice, you did well with a photo head. Good operating. What OConnor do you have? I have an Ultimate DV on Gitzo sticks that I want to lug up there but that damn thing is heavy. Head alone weighs 8 lbs.

I work at a camera rental house. The Oconnor head I usually swipe on weekends is a DVS with two stage carbon ronford legs. It's about 20LB total if not more. I only take it when I really feel like being professional.

I went up Sunday with a buddy. It was a beautiful day on the mountain. On the drive to Manker, I was struck by the amount of trash on the sides of the road. Upon return to my truck that afternoon, the trash was doubled. The "touristas" and boatloads of kids didn't even leave their trash at or around the trashcans. What does this teach the kids? It was left where they parked for the forest service to pick up. I wish some people would respect our natural resources enough to pick up after themselves. Thank You for letting me rant. And THANK YOU FOREST SERVICE!!

The downside of the proximity of this area to LA. It attracts all the Disneylanders :(

The trash blows me away every year. I even organized a clean-up a few years ago only to have it looking like a dump site a week later. It definitely doesn't help disolve stereotypes.

Baldy was never like this before. Not from what I can remember. It must have been advertised on Telemundo or Piolin radio. Not to stereotype or anything...

Any updates from this weekend? Is there still enough snow to ski the bowl?

Thanks!
