Today, the Angeles N.F. issued a closure of the "southern" portion of the national forest: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/angeles/news/20 ... sure.shtml

Granted the area their describing is pretty general, or I should say large, but can we assume that means the Baldy area as well?

From the Angeles National Forest website:

"The Station Fire Closure Area consists of all National Forest System lands within the Angeles National Forest south and east of California State Route 14 and California State Route 138."

I believe this means that the Mt. Baldy area is closed.

The Mt Baldy run to the top of Baldy on Labor Day looks like it is still on (as of now)

If this fire is truly arson, they can burn that person alive as far as I'm concerned. WTF is wrong with people?!?

An amazing view from the Mt. Wilson Towercam tonight, with the full moon and fire.

Fate of Strawberry Peak:

There is a web-cam on Josephine Peak that has been working on and off again the last few days. Attached are some still photos of the westerly view of Strawberry Peak from 09-06-09. They are small but you get the jist ( The 5:00 P.M. shot has the best lighting). If I see this correctly it appears the top of the west ridge before the class 3 and the summit have some chapperal / scrub that survived. Hopefully Colby Canyon has not suffered to greatly.

Just heard the Mt. Baldy road is closed in case anyone is planning on going up there. It saved me a drive...

The phoned the Angeles National Forest yesterday to ask about the closure. While the southern Baldy area (near the village and ski area) are closed, the person on the phone told me the northern area (near Wrightwood) is open.

The northern area? Doesn't the road end at the skilift? Do you mean ACH?

I was at Manker Flats on Labor Day. The only people allowed on the trail were the runners and support group. All other cars were turned back by the forest staff. I talked to one of them who said the the area would be closed for at least another week.

Are we confusing ski areas? I'm talking the Baldy ski area, not Mt. High.

Yep, me too. I see where I got confused though. I thought you meant the "northern part of the Mt. Baldy road near Wrightwood". I was like, huh?! But I'm sure you meant the northern San Gabriels near Wrightwood are open.
