Which Sierra peaks are well-traveled in December?

I am wondering the same thing. I have 2 weeks off from work over Christmas time and want to get out and tag some peaks. I figured worst case I could head to the valley and do some snowshoeing in the area or spend some time at J-tree.

A lot will depend on how much snow there is by December. You can alway use snowshoes or skis if there is enough snow or struggle on slippery rock with 1" of snow. Whatever you do, the approach will be longer. Some peaks to consider (good ski descends) are Berch Mt, Mt. Goode, Agassiz, Whitney, Langley (Northeast Couloir), Mt. Gould, Dunderberg, Black Mt (Virginia Lakes area), the list goes on... Can't forget about the avy danger. Sometimes a good alternative is Inyo Mountains which do not get a lot of snow - lots of elevation gain and beautiful views of the Sierras from across the valley.

NE Ridge of Williamson can get pretty crowded in the winter

On the west side, Silliman and Alta Peak have year round access. Other than that, a lot will depend on how much snow there is and how far down the roads are closed.

Since winter is just around the corner, I thought we could revisit this topic.

Definitely. I'd like to add a wrinkle too: for those of us with bad knees and have to stay off the skis, but are we looking at?

Anyone ever ski out of Kennedy Meadows?

I'm hoping to do that as soon as we get a nice wet&cold winter.
