What's up with the air?

Anybody in the Los Angeles area check out the dust storm going on today? Man, I went outside for a walk to enjoy the fresh autumn breeze, and instead I look up and see this:

It was like you could actually see this "layer" of air moving low to the ground. I read somewhere this was going on all over California as winds had picked up.

Couldn't help but wonder if all the left over ash and such from the fires contributed to it...

It's what's remains of all the trees that burned......

Fear the rains, they be a coming, mud flows, are sort of like dirt avalanches.

Cross you fingers and pray for a dry year.

I was thinking the same thing!! I was riding my motorcycle home last night and noticed the eerie sky and dust blowing in my face; thought the world would come to an end :)

STUPID ELECTRONS!

:) Lost power for more than 13 hours. The longest blackout I've experienced since the '94 quake. No juice is fine when you plan for it and yer out in the wilderness, but when you come home from a long boring day and just want to kill some stormtroopers online...well...it really really blows! Couldn't refuse a bad pun.

Learned my new apartment has electric water heaters. And even if you have a fully charged battery in your laptop, the DSL modem don't work. :P

Of course I was listening to to a story on the radio during all this. It was about a reported who'd escaped capture in Afghanistan. He mentioned outages of weeks on end. 13 hours is a drop in the bucket.

Edit: 30 minutes after the power came back, it cut out again. Was still out when I left for work. And I'm lucky I wasn't the one who had a long metal strip swing down from the roof and break my window. :P

I flew over the central valley yesterday enroute from SFO to ATL and saw all the dust blowing in the wind. There were hundreds of dust plumes rising from the valley, eventually joining into an amorphous mother-plume. It looked not unlike some sort of apocalyptic inferno!

Most of the big plumes looked like they were coming from baren crop fields.

Last night, palm fronds and ash fell on my car as a result of the devil winds. But too understated to be the precursor to THE END TIMES.
