Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. They are really appreciated.

Here is a simulated aerial view in the direction of Mount Whitney from directly above Mount San Antonio, at elevation 300,000 feet (about 56.8 miles above sea level). The black lines are meridians, running due north-south. The red lines are the California state boundary. From this elevation, Oregon can be seen on the horizon.

This may help people visualize the relative locations of the peaks and the perspective from the direction of Mt. San Antonio.

The colors are completely based on elevation, not actual Earth colors.

As with the previous image, my program is capable of producing a better-resolution image of the topography, but I wanted to make one quickly for display here, so this is the low-res version:

Actually, I'm one of Nevada's 20%-or-so unemployed. I suppose Vegas may be the wrong place to live for someone who wants to find a job that actually uses one's intelligence.

I want to live here, so I'll settle for something less. But it has to be steady and permanent -- the kind of thing one needs to make monthly house payments and raise a DayHikerJr. Part time is completely fine; it just has to be stable.

Oh no, you didn't!!

Are you referring to:
1. Resurrecting the Aetherian thread?
2. Joining the Aetherians?
3. Thanking Day Hiker?
Guilty as charged on counts 1 & 3 and on count #2 I plead that I was temporarily in close proximity to the Aetherains this past August as they were gathering on Mt Harwood.
But I haven’t joined….

.......yet :D

Reno is actually just a bit farther west than Santa Barbara.
